GateKept

Privacy Policy

GateKept uses location, account, search, and saved-place data to help users discover nearby places, refine recommendations, and reopen places they saved. This page covers both the iOS wrapper and the hosted web experience loaded inside it.

Effective date: July 14, 2026

What we collect

  • Email address for one-time passcode login and account recovery.
  • Approximate or precise location when you allow location access.
  • Search and deep-search chat text, follow-up messages, and generated results.
  • Saved places, saved events, taste answers, profile settings, and place feedback.
  • Photos or avatars you choose to upload, if that feature is enabled for your account.
  • Notification permission and device token data when you enable search notifications.
  • Operational metadata such as request IDs, IP-derived abuse-prevention signals, and server logs.
  • Anonymous aggregate counts for key actions such as Feed loads, searches, opening details, and saving an item. These counts do not include search text, place names, email, or location.

How we use it

  • Show nearby places and events.
  • Run instant search, deep search, and follow-up recommendations.
  • Personalize results using your saved places, taste profile, feedback, and recent search context.
  • Remember your saved places, map preference, account state, and profile settings.
  • Send optional notifications when a long-running search finishes.
  • Protect authentication and search endpoints from abuse, fraud, and excessive automated use.
  • Measure whether core app flows work and detect unusually high empty or failed results.

Voice search

If you use the microphone button, speech recognition turns your voice into search text. GateKept uses the transcript like any typed search. We do not store raw voice recordings on our servers.

AI and data providers

GateKept sends the minimum search, place, profile, and evidence context needed to providers that power search, maps, storage, notifications, and AI-generated responses. Current provider categories include hosting and logs, Supabase account/storage data, Google place and map data, AI model providers such as OpenAI, OpenRouter, or Gemini, and social or web source providers used to enrich place recommendations when enabled.

Maps and routing

When you ask for directions, GateKept can open Apple Maps or Google Maps using your saved preference. We try to open the place itself, not just a plain street address, when enough place metadata is available.

Data retention

Some personalization and save state is stored locally on your device. Signed-in account data needed to restore profile, saved items, taste preferences, search history, and generated recommendations may also be stored on the server side. We do not use your data for third-party ad tracking.

Your choices

You can use iOS Settings to disable location, microphone, or notification permissions. Signed-in users can open Profile, Account, then Delete account to delete account-linked profile data, saved items, feedback, notification/search state, and uploaded avatar files controlled by GateKept.
